The 1958 Lituya Bay megatsunami struck on July 9, 1958 when a massive landslide dropped 30 million cubic meters of rock and ice into the narrow inlet of Lituya Bay, Alaska. The sudden displacement of water triggered a tsunami hundreds of meters high, that was measured as being 524 meters (1,720 feet) tall.
